Pay or shift range: $119,100 CAD to $150,000 CAD

The estimated range is the budgeted amount for this position. Final offers are based on various factors, including skill set, experience, location, qualifications and other job-related reasons.

 

The Environment Advisor will report to the Environment & Compliance Lead (Asset) and be part of a team responsible for development, implementation and continual improvement of Environmental Systems and Programs related to operation of the LNG Facility in Kitimat.  The successful candidate will work closely with other functions within the organization including process engineering, operations, maintenance, PACO and permitting.  This is a permanent role within the Asset that spans to Run, Maintain and Improve our operations.

This role will cover all environmental aspects of the operation but also has a strong focus on GHG and air emissions and will require strong knowledge of both federal and provincial regulations.

You will use your expertise to:

  • Identify any new permitting requirements and changes to existing permits and provide technical support to the Regulatory and permitting Lead to secure the required approvals to minimize disruptions to LNGCs operations.
  • Undertake routine engagements with senior officials within government regulatory agencies to resolve regulatory compliance issues.
  • Oversee coordination of regulatory compliance inspections and assure appropriate mitigations are actioned to safeguard LNGC’s compliance record.
  • Support External Relations during engagements with external stakeholder including but not limited to First Nations and government organizations.
  • Support the development, implementation and revision of environment manuals, monitoring programs, procedures, and management plans for Operations phase.
  • Coordinate GHG initiatives related to Operation reporting, abatement, investment, and fugitive emissions management with internal focals and subject matter experts.
  • Coordinate and participate in audit and assurance activities to support verification of environmental compliance and continuous improvement.
  • Manage environmental data for internal and external reporting.
  • Work in a cross-functional team to develop environmental regulatory reporting templates and implement procedures to ensure accurate and timely submissions during early and steady state operations.
  • Collect, quality assure and submit environmental regulatory data related to air, effluent, waste and other environmental permits and regulations.
  • Mentor and support the data analyst, where required, to ensure quality inputs to environmental reporting.
  • Work with external stakeholders and industry groups to be knowledgeable on current and upcoming regulations and initiatives related to environment.

 

To be successful, you will have:

  • Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills towards building relationships in a dynamic, integrated, diverse/multi-cultural environment.
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced project environment.
  • Excellent data management skills
  • Degree related to Environmental Science or Engineering field or similar technical background with increased experience.
  • Minimum 7 years’ experience with LNG, oil and gas or other industrial operations experience in an environmental role.
  • Commissioning and start-up experience an asset.
  • Experience with air emissions, GHG, effluent management, waste, wildlife, fisheries, and/or contamination.
  • Working knowledge of Canadian and British Columbia Environmental Regulatory requirements
  • Environmental Management System experience, preferably ISO 14001 and/or Shell HSSE & SP Control Framework
  • A thorough understanding of key HSSE risks and associated mitigations for oil and gas operations

This role requires that you:  

  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada (i.e., by way of Canadian citizenship, permanent residency, or valid work permit)  
  • Live in the beautiful District of Stikine (Kitimat/Terrace).   • This role will require at times to climb stairs, support Environment colleagues with projects that are outside.

The community was developed in the 1950s to serve the aluminum industry. Over the years forestry and methanol industries were also located here. The airport is in Terrace, BC, approximately 55 kilometers north of Kitimat.
