About the Role
Westward Shipping Ltd. in Kitimat is seeking a Marine / Operations Agent to join our team. We are looking for a motivated candidate who is well-connected locally, currently living in Kitimat, and eager to grow within the marine industry.
This role requires someone who can work both independently and within a team, manage diverse tasks, and demonstrate strong communication and organizational skills. Flexibility is essential, as the role involves evening, weekend, and on-call work depending on vessel schedules.
The Marine / Operations Agent is responsible for coordinating all marine operations, agency services, and administrative duties for vessel calls at the Port of Kitimat. This includes regular boarding of vessels, coordination of operational requirements, and ensuring smooth vessel arrivals and departures.
Key Responsibilities
• Board vessels in port daily and represent the company professionally.
• Coordinate vessel movements, including ordering of pilots, tugs, linesmen, and any other required services.
• Assist with billing procedures and administrative documentation.
• Respond to customer and principal inquiries in accordance with company procedures.
• Prepare and maintain vessel files, ensuring all documentation is accurate and timely.
• Handle time-sensitive government and agency documentation (CBSA, Transport Canada, Port Authority).
• Attend Immigration and Customs offices to process required documents for arrivals and departures.
• Maintain daily communication with port principals, customers, vessel Captains, Port Authority, and government agencies.
• Travel as required to attend vessel operations (within regional areas).
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Operations or Agency Manager.
Qualifications
• Post-secondary degree preferred.
• Previous marine agency or shipping industry experience is helpful but not required.
• Strong communication skills—both written and verbal.
• Ability to work in diverse environments and under time pressure.
• Must be currently living in Kitimat and familiar with the region and community.
• Valid driver’s license with an accident-free motor vehicle record.
• Must be physically able to:
o Walk extensively
o Lift up to 50 lbs
o Climb stairs and gangways
o Bend, stoop, and move safely in marine environments

This Role Requires That You:

• Live in Kitimat or are prepared to relocate
• Are willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions
• Are comfortable boarding vessels and working around industrial environments
• Can be available on call during vessel operations
• Clear on-site required drug & Alcohol testing.
