The Kitimat Community Development Centre Society (previously Kitimat Child Development Centre Association) is a non-profit organization that began operating in the District of Kitimat in 1974. The Centre came into being because a group of parents wanted a variety of services for their children in one central place.
Over the years the Kitimat Child Development Centre - a Family Resource Centre, has evolved into a fully inclusive, family centered, community driven organization. Initially, the Centre provided specialized services to children who were challenged physically, intellectually, socially and/or emotionally. Their services broadened over the years to include youth programs and programs focusing on prevention and support for parents.
In 2016 they changed their name to the Kitimat Community Development Centre Society as their services developed into three streams, namely:
Early Years
Middle Years
Adult and Community Services
The Centre has always been incorporated under the Society's Act of British Columbia, thus providing accountability to both the community it serves and the funding of providers. The Kitimat CDC is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors with a mission to serve and support people of all abilities to reach their personal potential, and to improve the quality of life for all members of our community.
