KITIMAT CHRISTMAS HAMPER APPEAL

Kitimat Food Bank Society

Box 20, Kitimat, B.C. V8C 2G6

November 2022
Dear Chamber Members:

Christmas 2022 is fast approaching and the Kitimat Christmas Hamper Appeal is gearing up for its yearly campaign. In 2021 the citizens and businesses of Kitimat and Kitamaat Village generously donated $71,625 enabling us to fill 320 Christmas hampers and to continue assisting the less fortunate in our community throughout the year. We also received numerous boxes of food, gifts and toys thanks to you all.

The Christmas Hamper Appeal, under the auspices of the Kitimat Food Bank Society, for over 60 years has been giving out Christmas hampers, initially through the Kitimat Community Help Agency. Our organization is run strictly by volunteers and the majority of the donations are used for the needy with a small portion going to pay operating expenses. We are the only organization to distribute Christmas hampers in Kitimat and Kitamaat Village.

Christmas hampers include a cash voucher, food and gifts for the children. NEW toys are included for children 12 and under. We include gifts for the all teens and appreciate receiving such things as gift certificates for music downloads, phone cards, toiletries, restaurants, pool/skating passes, etc. Gift certificates from local merchants are a wonderful idea as this enables recipients to purchase something they would enjoy and support our local businesses at the same time. We do not give clothing as gifts, apart from mitts, gloves, toques etc., as we do not know recipients’ sizes. We would appreciate receiving unwrapped gifts as we have Gift/Toy Chairpersons and a host of volunteers to wrap and mark gifts; this makes it easier for us to know how many gifts we have for each age group. We also appreciate receiving gifts for the older children and teens as well as the younger children. We would appreciate receiving gifts by December 9th as recipients will be requested to pick up their hampers at the Food Bank from December 19th – December 23rd due to COVID-19.

Donations of gifts and non-perishable food items may be dropped off under the Envision Financial Credit Union Christmas Tree during their regular office hours (Monday to Friday 9:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m.) as well as the Kitimat Insurance Services “Henny’s Sharing Tree. Cheques and cash donations can also be dropped off at Envision Financial, the Food Bank (through mail slot if closed) or mailed to Box 20, V8C 2G6 - receipts are issued for donations of $10 or more for income tax purposes.

Thank you all for your ongoing support - we could not continue to function without the generosity of our local businesses, industry, organizations, churches, schools and individuals.

Sincerely

Marjorie Phelps & Janet Scrivens, Co-chairs
